New Year, New Me! 2015

Happy New Year! I know I haven't been in the blogosphere as of late but this year I will do my very best to be active and post regularly. I have so many things in store for you and there will also be some topics I will be very uncomfortable in discussing. I just hope that you all are supportive of me on my journey.

This year, I got some concrete tangible goals that I aim to accomplish and I want to share them all with you. I know some people aren't fans of New Year resolutions/goals but I feel that January is a good starting point to track your progress. So without further ado, here are my 7 goals for 2015:

Reading is fundamental! Reading will broaden your scope of the world, expose you to new vocabulary and so much more. Reading is a mental exercise. Everyone seems to be more focused on physical strengths and abilities rather than mental strength but it is just as important as everything else if not more important. My goal here is to read at least 1 book every month. Currently, I'm Reading Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. So far, I am loving the book. I'm actually thinking about doing a book review on my YouTube channel. Let me know if you think that sounds like a good idea!

So in the past, I have totally slacked off in this arena but no more! Writing helps you to solidify your thoughts onto paper, become a better communicator and helps with creativity. One of my lifetime goals is to write a book and writing regularly can build up my writing abilities so that I become more confident and comfortable in this art form. My goal here is to write for 10 minutes every day on ANYTHING I want. I don't want to be bogged down into one specific category. I guess that's the Gemini in me lol.  Currently, I am summarizing each chapter from Americanah because I find that by writing a summary, I retain more information from the book and it's also convenient to look back on when you want to know what a specific chapter was about without having to read the entire chapter over.

Working out was almost non-existent for me last year. Work, YouTube, Family, Relationships, they all took up my time. This year, I am going to invest and make more time for myself and so I decided that I am going to play volleyball again. I cannot tell you how much I've missed this sport! I've been playing since sophomore year of high school and it has helped me out when I was going through some tough times. It took my mind off of unnecessary bullshit, it made me disciplined and focused and I want that back. I am happy to report that I have signed up for a volleyball clinic with the NY Urban League to get a refresher course because I am a bit rusty.

They say you are the five people you mostly spend your time with. I want to make sure the people I am around are motivational, inspirational, determined, courageous and selfless. With that being said, I am looking for successful women of color whom I can shadow and learn from. If you think there aren't many, guess again! I cannot tell you the many women of color whom I look up to and aspire to. I have some things in the works right now that I am not ready to disclose just yet but just know that I am working on it for sure! Also, I would like to feature an amazing woman of color each week on my blog and I want to call this series "Fenomenal Friday". I combined Female and Phenomenal which I was inspired to do by Maya Angelou who wrote one of my favorite poems, "Phenomenal Woman". Plus, I LIVE for alliterations and I wanted the series to begin with the same letter lol. Let me if this is something you want to see on my blog and I'll be sure to get it out for you lickety split!

"The best way to find yourself is in the service of others" (Mahatma Gandhi). Doing something bigger than my self makes me feel like I am creating a positive change. One cause I am very passionate about is Haiti. After getting my bachelors, I quit my job and moved to Haiti to teach English to orphans. That experience was something I will always remember and cherish. And although, I am unable to commit to living out there at this current moment, I still want to help out in any other way that I can. I was able to connect with an organization called Community2Community which is a non profit organization that aims to build self-sufficient communities in Haiti. There are two initiatives there are currently working on: Water and Reforestation. I am very interested in helping out with both initiatives but moreso reforestation since this was my thesis in college.

For my career, I want to be able to work in a virtual office which basically means that I want to work from wherever I am: Brazil, Haiti, Bali, Australia, wherever. I don't want to be stuck in a 9 to 5 job helping to build someone else's dream; I want to build my dream and the dream I have for my people. Right now, I'm taking baby steps with this goal. Hopefully, when my blog and YouTube channel become more successful, I will be able to live out this goal.

This one coincides with the last goal and that is to be successful in building my presence online. With that being said, my goal in this category is to gain 100k subscribers before the end of 2015. I certainly think it's possible with faith, determination and hard work. I am currently working with someone to help make that happen for me. Also, your help is very important to me. I hope that you can help me attain this goal by liking my videos, sharing my content, commenting and creating a conversation below each of my videos and subscribing to my YouTube channel (shameless plug ^_^).

And there you have it! My 7 tangible goals that I have for 2015. By taking small steps everyday towards your goals, you become one step closer to reaching them.

Why are some goals you have for yourself? They don't have to be New Year’s Resolutions per se, just something you want to accomplish in a given time frame. Let me know in the comments and let's keep this conversation going!!!

Until Next time (and there will be a next time ;) ,
